Agecroft Mortuary Chapel Ruins

At last, I’ve been out with my camera thanks to a very special friend of mine and I have mixed feelings about the photographs below.  Don’t get me wrong, I do love them, but I think it’s a real shame that old buildings like this are left to ruin.

I’ve been trying to find out the history of this chapel and all I can find out is that it’s named the Mortuary Chapel and it stands just near the entrance of Agecroft Cemetery in Salford.  It was opened in 1903 due to nearby Weaste cemetery being full.

I couldn’t get inside the Mortuary Chapel hence the bars over the windows that did hold glass once.  I was pleased to see the stained glass window still intact.

The Mortuary Chapel at Agecroft Cemetery is virtually hidden as it’s surrounded by woodland that is slowly taking over.
