Hic Dragones Manchester Monster Convention
This weekend coming, April 14th and 15th, Hic Dragones are holding a monster convention in Sachas Hotel in Manchester City Centre. There is so much to do, films to see and lots of interesting talks, especially the one from Geoff Holder who will be talking about two real life vampire cases. I can’t wait for this. For more information about the two day event, visit the Hic Dragones website by clicking here.
Most importantly, I will be exhibiting some of my photography and jewellery and I will also be doing horror portraits.
If you’re coming along, please drop by my stall and say hi. I’ve been busy preparing for this and I’ve created the below pieces of jewellery especially for the event. More Gothic jewellery can be seen at http://www.gothicjewellerybox.com
Photographs from The Cemetery
Yesterday and I had a lovely time with Martin, Tim and his family taking photographs in a Manchester cemetery. We all made the best out of rubbish overcast conditions and it was nice to share my passion for cemetery photography with others.

I’ve never noticed an angel holding a flower before.
A typical scene within a Victorian cemetery. It’s such a shame that scenes like this will become a thing of the past, because how long will they last?
I wanted to try something different with this angel as I’ve already got photographs of her from the front on a previous visit. It’s such a wonderful statue.
Next two photographs show a lady sat on the grave looking sad. They’re different statues, but I’ve been trying to find out what they represent. I know that a weeping woman represents sorrow, but as I have a romantic imagination, could they be statues of the deceased’s wife, representing her now that her husband has been laid to rest?
Finally, a statue of a woman holding a torch and not the Olympic torch LOL!

New Horror Portraits
Below are the latest horror portraits to be added to the gallery with the existing lot. Click here to view the HORROR PORTRAIT gallery or click on the image to view more information about it.
Oh those crazy eyes of Kyle’s and do you wonder what he has done to get sprayed with blood?
New revamp of my friend Tony Longworth who is a talented dark, alternative, music composer. I heard recently that he’s going to be doing a project with my friend Bill Oberst Jr. I cannot wait as I know that Tony’s music complimented my photography, which can be heard in the videos such as the fans video below.
Pamela is a work colleague of mine and I think she looks great with black demon eyes in her horror portrait poster.
Actor Paul Newberry agreed to have his horror portrait taken along with Ryan below, when I met them both at their premier of Mark Macready and the Arch Angel Murders. I absolutely loved the film and I love the re-vamp with the effect of him covered in blood. He also reminds me of Freddy Krueger in a way.
And finally we have the wonderful actor Ryan McDermott with his character pose of Mark Macready (Arch Angel Murders). Again, what did he do to get covered in blood?
Celebrate St Patrick’s Day with a Leprechaun’s Revenge
Now then, regular followers of my ramblings will know that I’m a HUGE fan of Drew Daywalt and his work. I share his passion for classic horror and he is a true master of portraying the elements of horror that sadly are being forgotten by the big studio’s. More importantly, Drew’s work is original.

For you lucky people across the pond, March 17th (St Patrick’s Day) will air Drew Daywalt’s latest creation titled Leprechaun’s Revenge, which will be shown on SyFy at 21:00 Eastern. Drew took some time out of his busy schedule to answer my questions and I really wish I could enjoy this when it’s aired, but instead I will have to wait for the DVD. No spoilers please in the meantime and thank you Drew for the interview. I wish you continued success!
Did you research the mythology of the Leprechaun and if so, what is the most fascinating fact that inspired your creation?
I did. And so did screenwriter Anthony C. Ferrante. Ultimately though, I wanted to go for a more sinister creature than the happy little elves. I wanted to create a goblin-like creature, one that fought with druids of old. Something that reflected a darker past, more ogre, orc or troll in nature. We kept the gold hoarding and the luck parts of the mythology, we just took it to a much darker place.
You have said that the Leprechaun’s Revenge is an ode to the B-Monster movies. For generations who have never seen such a movie, can you explain your passion and fondness for them?
I grew up in the 80′s watching old horror films on Friday night with my brothers. Some were Hammer Horror from the 60′s others were James Whale and Universal monster films, and others were those old black and white Jack Arnold rubber monster movies. Movies like THEM and TARANTULA and CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. As a boy I loved those films and when I look at what SyFy is doing, I see a reflection of those old campy monster movies. And I wanted this to be one of those, but with a modern, ironic and quirky twist. Something that was self conscious and knew what it was. Entertainment at it’s simplest, but smartest level.
How did you pitch the script of this movie to the stars, Billy Zane and William Devane?
Actually, the same way I pitched it just now. An ode to old monster movies, but with a sort of quirky, offbeat, even funny tone. In truth, the film is odd and wonderful and more amusing than scary and that was our intent. Billy and Bill both jumped on board enthusiastically and we were kids on a playground with this homicidal leprechaun at the center of our world for a few weeks.
Unfortunately for UK fans of your work, we won’t be able to watch it on March 17th on SyFy. When will we be able to view it?
I don’t know the details, but I do know that it will eventually be released on DVD, and I’m sure that’s not too far off! And hey, it’s never too late to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
