Fans of Amanda Norman Gothic and Horror Photography
A couple of weeks ago I asked you to help me make my new promotional video that would feature some of your favourite photographs and quotes about my Gothic and horror photography.
I also stated that Luke would choose an entry to win the digital version of the image chosen and the winner has been chosen.
Congratulations to Brandi Jackola of InsideoutCast!
Luke chose Brandi’s choice because the photograph of ‘Graveyard Light’ is one of his favourites. He also liked Brandi’s choice of words and lastly, he enjoyed playing with the effects on this particular photograph for the video.
A big thank you to Tony Longworth for allowing me to use his haunting music titled ‘As Shadows Fall’ that makes this video so special.
Finally, a personal thank you goes out to all of the fans who sent me their feedback and choice of favourite photograph. A lot of my fans are on Twitter and I encourage you to follow them and visit their personal websites, which I’ve listed below.

Graveyard Photography at Night
Last night I visited a graveyard and took some photographs.
Below are the best shots chosen by the lovely MarixaLilith from Twitter who is a big fan of my black and white graveyard photography, but when she had to choose between the colour and black and white shots, she chose mostly the colour ones as her favourites.

Below is my very first attempt at night time photography, which was taken a few years ago in the same graveyard in Warrington. I think the purple photograph has a lot more atmosphere due to the noise.

BBC North West Tonight Interview
Today the sun has shone, which is good considering I spent 4 hours in Weaste Cemetery being filmed by Eleanor Moritz for the BBC North West Tonight programme.
I started the day off being nervous as I hate the idea of seeing myself on photographs let alone being filmed. As soon as I met Eleanor though my nervousness disappeared and I had lots of fun. I also met Richard the manager of Weaste Cemetery who was very friendly and a fountain of knowledge. I would be in my element if I worked in a cemetery as I love to learn about graveyard symbols and the history of them. I found out today that if the tip of an obelisk was at an angle, it meant that the last of a family line had been buried there.
You learn something new every day!
The best thing about today though is that my friend Dave also got filmed as they wanted to know his opinion and thoughts about my photography and he did very well.
The interview together with some of my photography should be on the TV, this Thursday (29th April). Keep checking back in case the date changes.
Below are a couple of photographs that I took on the day that I feel shows the beauty of this cemetery in spring with the blossoms blooming.

The Tunnel

It was tough to choose a favourite photo but I settled on “The Tunnel”
Here’s my thoughts:
I really liked a lot in the Graveyard section but I think the picture that had the most impact during my perusal was “The Tunnel”. I immediately got a sense of claustrophobia from the thumbnail but on closer inspection I saw the “light at the end of the tunnel” and the room seemed to get bigger, then the gravestones became relevant and my whole perspective of the picture changed and took on a much creepier atmosphere.
There is a lot of information captured in that picture, it’s like a story for crazy people and all 13 of my personalities agree. The perspective perfectly drew me into the scenario and created a chemical imbalance within my snapses inducing a claustrophobic anxiety attack, then a semblance of hope and finally an eerie sense of curiosity. If a picture can paint 1000 words then a photo can mess with mental people!
The Tunnel was photographed at St James Cemetery in Liverpool, UK.
I think its sad that a decision was made to uproot the majority of headstones and place them around the walkways of the cemetery. In the past, this cemetery has seen lots of vandalism and neglect and at one point the suggestion of filling it in was made.
