If you’re new to my blog and photography, I met Rachel aka @lipstattoo666 in person at the official VIP launch party of Mark Macready and the Arch Angel Murders in Manchester. She had told me previously that she would love a dark portrait and this ‘B’ style movie poster is the finished result.
I’ve had a couple of people ask me if they can send me an image and then I turn it into a dark portrait. Unfortunately, I have to take the portrait otherwise it wouldn’t be my photography. I’m hoping to get out and about more and I will let you know what events I’ll be attending in the future.
If you would like a dark portrait or you would like me to attend your event, please contact me to discuss further.
Dark Portraits from Mark Macready VIP Launch Party
I had a great time at the VIP launch party for ‘Mark Macready and the Arch Angel Murders’ movie premier. It’s a fantastic film and it has some comedy elements in that will make you laugh. All of the actors were fantastic and if you haven’t seen the film yet, please head on over to the Arch Angel Murders website by clicking here.
Following on from the movie, there will be an animated web series, which will premier in August 2010. I can’t wait to see this.
I loved meeting friends from Twitter and having the opportunity to capture their soul by taking their dark portrait. Unfortunately, I couldn’t have done a dark portrait for everyone.
Rachel aka @lipstattoo666
Check out Rachel eyes. She was brilliant at posing and it was a real pleasure meeting her. She’s lovely in person and you should have seen her red shoes. They were mental! I’d break my neck trying to walk in them. Rachel also gave me a severed finger and some button badges that now take pride of place on my handbag. Seriously, check out her store by clicking here.

Personally, I prefer the black and white version above, but I know Rachel loves the colour below as she is now using it as her avatar on Twitter.

Steve aka @HorrorExtreme
OMG! Steve picked up a Twitter award at the party for the most gross posts on Twitter. He’s such a wonderful character and I’m glad that I met him. He also runs the website HorrorExtreme.com, which you should pay a visit if you like extreme horror.
What do you think of his dark portrait below?

Tom aka @ThatHorrorThing
It was nice meeting Tom and he presented me with a challenge for his dark portrait. He wanted the shadow from his forehead to be cast over his eyes and it wasn’t easy considering the location and my intake of Macready cocktails. Tom is a horror columnist and a podcaster over at Geek Planet Online.

And now it’s time for the Mark Macready Cast
Nathan Head aka The Arch Angel
It was a great pleasure taking Nathan’s portrait as he got into the spirit of posing. His portrait reminds me of the old Universal Horror portraits and it is definitely one of my favourites.

Paul Newberry aka DCI Doyle
Paul is a lovely guy and I hope he doesn’t take offence, but I wasn’t the only one who thought his pose reminded them of Freddy Krueger. LMAO! Paul can pose for me anytime as he was hilarious.

Ryan McDermott aka Mark Macready
His raised eyebrow had to feature in the dark portrait didn’t it?
Ryan deserves an award for his hard work, great acting skills and for simply being a wonderful guy. He was the perfect host and had time for EVERYONE!
I can’t decide on the colour or the black and white version, so I will leave that to you to decide. I think that Ryan prefers the colour version.

So if you haven’t heard of ‘Mark Macready and the Arch Angel Murders’ your missing out! Please head on over to their website by clicking here and watch the 30 minute movie, then follow the guys and girls above on Twitter and join the Macready family.

Fans of Amanda Norman Gothic and Horror Photography
A couple of weeks ago I asked you to help me make my new promotional video that would feature some of your favourite photographs and quotes about my Gothic and horror photography.
I also stated that Luke would choose an entry to win the digital version of the image chosen and the winner has been chosen.
Congratulations to Brandi Jackola of InsideoutCast!
Luke chose Brandi’s choice because the photograph of ‘Graveyard Light’ is one of his favourites. He also liked Brandi’s choice of words and lastly, he enjoyed playing with the effects on this particular photograph for the video.
A big thank you to Tony Longworth for allowing me to use his haunting music titled ‘As Shadows Fall’ that makes this video so special.
Finally, a personal thank you goes out to all of the fans who sent me their feedback and choice of favourite photograph. A lot of my fans are on Twitter and I encourage you to follow them and visit their personal websites, which I’ve listed below.

The Very First Dark Portraits
Quite a lot of people have asked me the same question, ‘what got you started doing dark portraits’?
The quick answer is below. Meet my Uncle Terry!

If it hadn’t been for Uncle Terry telling me that I had an eye for photography and pulling silly faces for me to practice taking photos, I’d probably have never got started with it.
The images you see here, aren’t great as they were taken on a very cheap camera back in 2005 and there is quite a lot of camera shake if you look closely. None the less, if I’d never taken them, I would never have learned to better my photography skills and I would certainly not be creating dark portraits today.

If you have a question to ask about my photography, feel free to contact me.
