I love the idea for this series you’re doing!!  My pick, hands down is The Dark Road to Nowhere.  What an amazing, haunting, and isolation-inducing picture.  The dark figure in the distance … is he/she walking towards us or away from us?  And what is he/she doing out there? They may not even be walking anywhere. They could be standing there looking at the grave of a loved one.  And I love the light that’s in the distance … it almost looks like a curtain of darkness and one of light; each trying to push each other back.  It’s a really haunting and beautiful picture.  I keep staring at it hoping to find some clue as to the lonely figure out there.

I hope you don’t mind, but that photo is my screen saver on all 3 of my computers!!!  LOL

A. M. Esmonde author of ‘The Breathing Dead’ and more

‘There are many images that I like by creative photographer Amanda Norman, an eye catching  photo of ominous perfection is Dark Road to Nowhere.

It is a black and white image with scope, mystery and intrigue. Is the figure leaving or returning? Are the rays of light hinting at something more unearthly? The depth, equalisation in light, mid-tones and darks highlight the contrasting stones perfectly.

I’m usually a stickler for detail and many of Amanda’s photographs capture every minuet piece of gravel and so on, but what I love about Dark Road to Nowhere is the lack of detail and crispness. It’s unusual to be drawn to an image by what it doesn’t give. But in this case, it is its own unique strength. The dream like quality of the over all photo, the haziness of the graves that disappear into nothingness, silhouette figure that is natural and not posed, accompanied by the dark head stones bookends the road to nowhere.
The understated amount of lighting and the brightness of the horizon level, coupled with soft detail make it overwhelming and that is why I like it. Eerie creepy photography at it’s best. ‘

As Night Rolls In

SC-Angel-Night-Time

I love the idea of being watched over by something protective. By no means do I believe in a Christian god, but I do believe there is a place where all existence comes together. A place where all our souls meet and are protected. Not just humans, but everything that exists has will meet in this place. It is someplace where we don’t fear the real evils that we have created as humans. Even when night rolls over us, we know we are safe and protected. It’s not the night we fear, but ourselves in the night. The angel is one of us, taking her turn of watching as we rest. When it is my turn, I will join her, let her step aside, and give someone else their ease in knowing they are protected.

I really enjoyed Martin’s interpretation of my photograph above.  I don’t believe in a Christian God either, but I do believe that we are spiritual beings, placed on Earth to learn from our experiences in the past and to better ourselves going forward to the next stage of life.

FAN SPOT: LipsTattoo

LipsTattoo’s Favourite Photograph

“I found it quite hard to choose a single favourite photograph of Amanda’s beautiful work. At first I was instantly grabbed by the Strawberry massacre, just because I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the harsh man-made steel grater and the soft bleeding flesh of the strawberries, But my actual official choice is Vamp DeeDee.

Cats by their nature tend to be very laid back and refined animals, but Amanda has managed to catch what looks like a primal scream from this beautiful feline, its a very striking shot and reminds me of the Lucio Fulci film Black Cat (Gatto Nero).

This incredibly intense photo had my eyes locked to the screen, entranced at the power and alluring beauty that has been caught on film thanks to Amanda’s wonderful talent.”

I don’t take many photos of our two cats and perhaps I should after Lipstattoo’s lovely feedback.  I have another photograph of DeeDee (below) that I will send to Lips as a gift.

Fan Spot: Marixa Lilith

Fan Spot is a brand new feature that provides fans the opportunity to receive their favourite photograph in return for telling us why they like it so much.

Allright, finally I made up my mind about my very favorite photograph.  It was hard as there are so many I like especially at the Cemetery Photography section.

I picked one of the shots taken in St Peter’s Churchyard called Fairies Grave, because it looks so mysterious, so antique and also neglected, like it is located at the darkest spot of the cemetery.

The main reason why this photograph touched me so much is because it reminds me of the classic vampire Hammer Horror films and it reminds me particularly of one scene that takes place in ‘Taste the Blood of Dracula’ with Christopher Lee, and they show all the dusty, old and neglected graves in this creepy and magnificent cemetery.  This photograph also gives me the feeling that it was taken a long time ago, like in another century even if its not and it captures all the vampiric beauty of the classic horror.

Thanks to Marixa for the above feedback, which is fantastic as Hammer Horror is clearly one of my inspirations.  The grave above is in fact a neglected grave that is situated at the very back of an old English churchyard under the trees.  Next time I’m there, I will check the date on the headstone to see how old it is.
