Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!

Last night my daughter shouts me into the living room and she’s in hysterics at an old show of Jerry Springer.  She was only a baby in the 90’s so seeing Jerry for the first time was very amusing for her.

Watching it last night got me thinking about how much I miss the old Jerry Springer shows, being totally shocked at the outrageous antics.  Never in a million years would a British TV show allow fighting like that, hence why Jerry was always put on late at night.

In remembrance of these shows, I’ve found some excellent clips on YouTube for us all to enjoy.

I really don’t know what to say about the Midget KKK!

The Countess 2009

I recently had the pleasure of watching this wonderful film based on the life of the Hungarian Countess Erzebet Bathory played by Julie Delpy.

Known as the ‘Blood Countess’ and for good reason, this 2009 film tells the story of the Countess who falls in love with the attractive Istvan Thurzo who is 18 years younger than her. Their love is mutual much to the dismay of his father Gyorgy Thurzo, played by William Hurt, who proceeds to split them up by forcing his son to marry another and not see the Countess again.

Heartbroken, the Countess has no stomach for food and is slowly starving. She gets paranoid believing that he has fallen for a younger looking woman and when viewing her reflection in the mirror, she sees an aging woman.

One day in a fit of rage, she strikes her maid across her face and blood splatters on to the Countess’s face. She proceeds to wipe it off in the mirror and at the same time, light shines through the window and the Countess believes that the young maids blood is making her skin more youthful in appearance.

Has she lost her mind or does she truly believe that the blood of young virgins is responsible for making her skin appear youthful again?

In real life, the Countess is believed to have killed more than 600 young women and this adaptation provides one of the many theories as to why she did this. One thing we do know for sure is that she definitely had a thirst for blood.

After watching this film, I felt very sorry for The Countess and Julie Delpy played her magnificently. It’s a beautiful, heartbreaking story and one that shouldn’t be missed.

The Greatest Car in TV History

Munster Koach

It has to be the ‘Munster Koach’ built by ‘George Barris’ for the hit TV show ‘The Munsters’.

munsters

This hot rod car is 18ft long and made from three Model T bodies.  Each member of the Munsters family required their own compartment, which included a laboratory for Grandpa Munster.

It has blood red velvet interior and black gloss pearl paint on the exterior and gets three miles to a gallon on embalming fluid.  :P

1964 the cost to build the first Munster Koach was $18,000.00 and there was only two built.

The studio only gave ‘George Barris’ 21 days to complete the car.

It has a four speed manual transmission with a power rear end.

The car is powered by a 289 Ford Cobra engine which was bored to 425 cid.

Second Best TV Car Ever?

Dragula

musnsters 2

Dragula was Grandpa Munster’s car which was also built by ‘George Barris’.

The fibre glass body of DRAG-U-LA was shaped like a coffin. It featured a 350HP 289CI Ford Mustang V-8 engine, with a four-speed stick shift.

Semi-Dead

New Horror-Comedy Web Series, “Semi-Dead,” puts a unique and twisted new spin on the zombie genre.

Los Angeles, CA — “Semi-Dead” the new horror-comedy web series from student Emmy award-winning writer/producer Chris Wiltz is set to make its debut online via Blip.tv on Oct. 28th 2009.

Semi-Dead Synposis:

Chris and Joe are roommates, both former military, trying to live normal, productive lives in this modern, Internet-dominated world…
It’d be a lot easier though, if the city weren’t swarming with zombies.

On the plus side, it seems that somebody forgot to turn out the lights and, despite the city being ravaged by zombies, much of the infrastructure remains in tact. For the time being there are still utilities, electricity, gas and even Internet access available. But that doesn’t stop this whole thing from affecting the two in wildly different ways. Joe goes into full on survival mode–struggling to fight against the zombies and sometimes finding rather disturbing and unorthodox ways to survive. Chris however, has suffered some form of PTSD and is living his life as if nothing out of the ordinary has happened.

So, while Joe embarks on an endless quest of survival (so long as he doesn’t have to leave too many of the comforts of home behind), Chris continues to go to “work,” run errands, look for dates, make sure Joe pays the rent on time, and generally maintain his 9 to 5 existence all without ever even noticing the zombies.

But things are not always as they seem and, as Chris and Joe encounter other survivors and gradually stumble onto the truth of what is happening to the city, survival may not be a matter of sanity but rather which one of them is crazier.

The series, completely independently produced, joins the ranks of other zombie-based horror web series, but with a unique twist on the characters and story world never before seen in the genre. This is a show of not only the crazy (and sometimes horrific) extremes two characters will go to in order to survive the zombie outbreak, but also what happens when modern technology (i.e Internet access) is thrown into the mix. Things are not what they seem, and the zombie outbreak won’t be what the characters or the audience first imagine it to be.

The key creative team consists of several young filmmakers (graduates of Chapman University in Orange, CA) whose work has garnered selections and numerous awards and festival accolades at prestigious festivals including the Student Emmy Awards, BAFTA, the DGA, and the Hollywood Film Festival.

The original score is composed by Andrea Chang, a graduate of USC’s prestigious Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program, who has scored numerous short and feature films as well as animation and video games.

The original theme song is created by Detroit CYDI one of the hottest, up and coming Hip-Hop groups in Detroit’s underground music scene. Their uniquely comedic lyrics and fresh production style are quickly earning them nationwide attention. Most recently they performed as part of the 2009 Vans Warp Tour.

Chris Wiltz is a fellow of USC’s Guy Hawks and Marvin Miller Screenwriting Program (the Cosby Fellowship) – founded by Bill Cosby.
