Vampires or Zombies
What is it about vampires and zombies that interests people and why do some of us prefer one over the other?
Personally, I prefer vampires!
Vampires are mysterious creatures and there is mention of them throughout history and there is always the question, do they exist and in what form?
Vampires from literature have been transformed into dark creatures, some of which are sexually alluring, while few of them are deadly and hated. I like stories that feature erotic vampires that are evil and sadistic and I’m a big fan of the vampires portrayed in the old Hammer Horror movies.
I can’t stand the idea of teenage vampires running around in a high school. I won’t even entertain the idea.
Vampires from folklore are vile, filthy creatures that haunt the living to feed from their energy, whether it be for blood or psychic energy.
There is so much to look at in regards to vampires, but what do we have with zombies?
Zombies are literally the walking dead. They have no sense and they have no charisma. They stumble awkwardly looking for the living to feed on their brains, but for what purpose?
They don’t even look attractive!
Correct, they are a creature to be feared from as I wouldn’t want to come across one with black bloody gunge drooling down its chin moaning about brains.
Actually, I seen an old man in an old people’s home when I was a child visiting my nana and he had some dark liquid spilling from his mouth down his chin. He asked me for a kiss and I ran! He reminds me of a zombie, but I easily escaped.
To me, zombies are just dumb creatures that survive for humans to enjoy blasting to bits. That’s what most movies portray and quite frankly, they bore me.
I do have a favourite zombie on Twitter who goes by the name of ‘TheReal_ZoMbiE’. He is so damn witty! If you like zombies, he is certainly one character that you must follow.
I invite you to join in on this discussion and tell us all which one you prefer and why as I think it will be very interesting.

Scariest Vampire of All Time
I’m not alone in my opinion that Mr Barlow from Salem’s Lot (1979) is the most scariest and hideous vampire of all time. This was proven the other night when I put Salem’s Lot on for my 19yr old daughter as she has never seen it.
I was waiting for the usual comments like ‘This isn’t scary’ or ‘this is rubbish’, but we got through the scene where Ralphie Glick floats to his brother, Danny Glick’s window and scratches his nails on the glass making an awful screeching noise.
I thought at this point my daughter would refuse to watch anymore, but we carried on and watched how Ben Mears (David Soul) relationship with the doctor’s daughter, Susan Norton developed, and how the town was slowly turning into a ghost town as vampires were born.
Part 1 ended with Danny Glick springing up out of his coffin and biting the cemetery keeper.
It was time for part 2 of the DVD set and we got as far as the first appearance of Mr Barlow when he magically unlocked the cell door which held Floyd Tibbits. The camera stuck on Mr Barlow’s nosferatu head with those terrifying yellow eyes and the awful hissing and screeching sounds he made.
Kerry (daughter) refused to watch anymore of Salem’s Lot.
It’s a shame because she missed the most terrifying scene where Mr Straker along with Mr Barlow, entered the kitchen of the Petrie family in spectacular style.
The room started to tremble and shake violently like it would in an earthquake and a black mass appeared on the kitchen floor, growing slowly to reveal the hissing and growling Mr Barlow. Mr Straker demanded that the priest surrender himself to Mr Barlow.
James Mason played Mr Straker, who was Mr Barlow’s keeper. He lived in the old Marsten house and owned an antiques shop within Salem’s Lot. Mr Straker had a screw loose to keep a vampire like him. I never figured out if he was scared of Mr Barlow, or if he really wanted to be his keeper.
Reggie Naldor played the role of Mr Barlow magnificently and he is one of the most evil, terrifying vampires ever to be seen.
I remember watching Salem’s Lot when I was a young teenager and part 1 scared me so much that I cried when I had to go to bed as none of my family would let me share a bed with them. I was that scared!
Part 2 came on the television the following night and I had to beg my mother to let me watch it even though I knew I would be terrified to go to bed afterwards. Part 2 scared me more and to this day, I won’t sit in a room at night with the curtains open and I don’t like dark patches in rooms.
If you haven’t watched Salem’s Lot, then you must watch the 1979 version with David Soul as it is the best in my opinion.
Fewdio and The Cellar
Recently, I came across the awesome talent of Fewdio who create nightmares within minutes.
They have a short film titled The Cellar and to my surprise and enjoyment, it is a wonderful tribute to the original Salem’s Lot.
For all fans of Salem’s Lot, I heartily recommend that you watch The Cellar and let me know if you think it is a fitting tribute. Enjoy!
Favourite Lady Vampires
Below are some of my most memorable female vampires.
None of them are from Hammer Horror movies as I’ve featured those vampires in my ‘Female Vampires of Hammer Horror’ post.
Lorena from True Blood
We haven’t seen a lot of Lorena in True Blood, but she is one dark and mysterious vampire that I can’t seem to shake from my memory.
Her bloodlust for humankind is insatiable and she loved to bring women as gifts for Bill and her to enjoy in a sexual bloodlust frenzy.
Lorena is responsible for turning Bill into a vampire and she longs to walk with him for all eternity.
Did Lorena astral project into Sookie’s dream when she was fantasising about being in bed with Eric (sexiest male vamp ever!)?
Her tears of blood where so striking when Bill told her to leave. I felt sorry for her and I hope we get to see more of her.
Lily Munster from the TV Show The Munsters
The Munsters was one of my favourite TV shows when I was a child. Actually, scrap that last sentence as I still love to watch The Munsters today.
I loved Herman Munster to bits, the way he laughed and cracked jokes all the time.
One character that I can’t forget is ‘Lily Munster’.
Lily Munster, one of the original sexiest vampires of the 20th century in my opinion.
She was the ‘mommy’ vampire to millions and she was a rock to her husband Herman.
Yvonne is quoted to have said about the Munsters..
‘It meant security. It gave me a new, young audience I wouldn’t have had otherwise. It made me ‘hot’ again, which I wasn’t for a while‘.
Yvonne was one of the biggest beauty queens of the 40′s and 50′s and one of the most beautiful in the world.
Yvonne De Carlo was born in 1922 and sadly died of natural causes at the age of 84 1n January 2007.
Grace Jones as Vamp (1986)
Who can forget Grace Jones as the vampire Katrina in the movie Vamp?
I can’t!
In fact I haven’t seen this film for years, but I can still remember how she scared me when I was younger. The only other vampire that scared me more was Mr Barlow from Salem’s Lot.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Grace Jones was an actual vampire. She is big time creepy.
Background of Movie
A couple of college kids scouring the sleazy, local red-light district for a stripper for their party make the mistake of visiting the After Dark Club, where a vampiric Grace Jones is the marquee talent. Keith, Vic, and A.J., looking for strippers for their next frat party, unfortunately happen upon the only strip joint in town staffed and run by vampires. It isn’t long before two of the boys have joined the ranks of the undead, complicating things for their fraternity brothers and their roommates. A kinky, often comedic modern-day vampire tale.
This film isn’t often talked about when we remember good vampire flicks and below is the scene from the movie where Katrina is introduced. Check out the crowds faces at the end of her performance. It’s a scream!
Salma Hayek as Santanico in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
Who can forget the scene when Salma Hayek, with a large snake is introduced onto the stage to Tito & Tarantula’s song, After Dark?
Salma certainly played the part of a sensual vampire, teasing the men with her seductive charm. It was genius when she poured a drink down her leg to run off her foot into Tarantino’s mouth.
