Information about vampire folklore, mythology and vampires in history

Vampires of the World

There are lots of mysterious tales about the different types of vampires from around the world, but how many of them are you aware of and how many come from your own back yard?

In today’s society, a lot of people dismiss the existence of vampires, but why if there are numerous documented facts from times as far back as before Christ?

Long before countries knew of other countries existence, inhabitants feared the same vampiric creature.  How can this be?

Below, I’ve compiled a list of vampires from around the world and if you feel that I’ve missed one out or you have information to add, please contact me.

imageAsasabonsam – Africa

Similar to the Australian Yara-ma-yha-who. It would live up in the trees and pounce upon its victims. The creature has iron ferocious teeth and sharp hook feet that are used for grabbing its victims.

Azeman – Southern America

A female vampire that appears normal in daylight, but has the ability to shape shift into a bat (can be another animal) after sunset to fly in search of intended victims.  Such victims would be asleep with their big toe exposed and the Azeman will scrape off some of the flesh and lap up the blood until she is full. Victims will wake up very weak and near death.  An Azeman becomes a vampire when infected with blood from another of its kind.

To protect yourself, a broom propped against a door can be used and a sprinkling of seeds will pre-occupy this vampire as it needs to obsessively count them all and can do so until dawn arises and therefore revealing her true identity.  This vampire can be killed during daylight.

Bantu – India

There are three types in all.

Bantu Dodong – Lives in caves and feeds off the blood of animals.
Bantu Parl – Feeds off the blood of wounded humans who can’t defend themselves.
Bantu Saburo – Commands dogs to hunt humans so that it can feed off them.

imageBaobhan Sith – Highland Scotland

Pronounced ‘baavan shee’, this vampire also referred to as a succubus, takes the appearance of a beautiful young woman dressed in green and arises from her grave once a year to feed.  They are also said to have hooved feet that are hidden under their long green dress.

Operating in groups and in forests, their main victims would be travelling males who would be lured in by their stunning looks. They would dance with their victim until they fell exhausted and to weak to put up a fight before using their sharp fingernails to claw their victims flesh and feed on their blood and life sources.

Her crying shriek can often be heard from a distance and it is said that sometimes, the person who hears her scream will drop down dead.  If a number of Baobhan Siths are heard shrieking together, this foretells the death of a great person.

This type of vampire is said to have become immortal through death at childbirth.

The Baobhan Sith is also an evil Scottish fairy and to protect yourself from such creatures, you should use cold iron.

Bhuta – India

These creatures are ghouls that eat the remains of humans and they usually inhabit graveyards and attack those who approach.  They inhabit dead bodies and use the corpse to attack their victims.  In ghost form they appear as a ball of light or a flickering misty figure.  The Bhuta never have shadows.

A Bhuta is transformed following an untimely violent death and are forever cursed to walk the Earth in search of their next victim.

Blautsauger – Bosnia-Herzegovina

This is an interesting vampire as it tries to make its victims eat earth from it’s tomb in order to turn them into vampires. The Blautauger does not like hawthorn flowers and it can also turn into a rat or a wolf.  This vampire has no skeleton and it’s hairy.

Bruculaco – Greece

An ugly vampire that has hard swollen skin and is known to spread the plague. This vampire will attack it’s victim if they answer its screaming call, which it can do only once a night. To kill it, you must decapitate it and either burn or boil its head.

Callicantzaros – Greece

Was you born between December the 25th and January the 5th? If so after death you will become a vampire and attack your victims with your long sharp fingernails and rip them to death. These vampires only appear during the twelve days of Christmas.

Catacano – Greece

I wouldn’t like to be attacked by this grinning vampire. It spits blood at you and it burns. To kill this creature you must boil it’s head in vinegar or isolate it behind salt water.

Chiang-shih – China

Usually created after a violent death, this creature is very ferocious and is very similar to the Ekimmu, which is thousands of miles away.  This creature would rip its victims apart before feeding off the blood. Garlic and running water would keep it away and fire would destroy it.
Most important thing about this vampire is that once buried it would not be able to roam, so it had to escape before burial.

Dakhanavar – Armenia

This creature would inhabit a valley near Mount Ararat and would suck the blood from travellers feet. According to legend, the Dakhanavar was never seen again after two men slept with their feet tucked under one another’s heads causing the Dakhanavar to believe that it was a two headed monster.

Dearg-due – Ireland

Similar to the Baobhan Sith, a beautiful woman who rises from her grave to lure men to their doom by sucking them dry of their life forces.  She dates back to Celtic times and is reportedly buried near Strongbow’s Tree in Waterford, County Munster.

Legend tells us that she was once so beautiful that she could have had the pick of any man, but her father forced her into an arranged marriage with a man who abused her. She committed suicide and is said to rise from her grave to avenge her death.

Commonly referred to as the ‘red blood sucker’, a cairn of stones should be built over the grave to prevent her from rising.

Ekimmu – Sumer (Iraq)

This type of vampire was created from a violent death or improper burial.  They are spirits that resemble gusts of wind that suck the life out of children and the sleeping.

Farkaskoldus – Hungary

A vampire which turns into a werewolf at death.

Gierach – Prussia

Other wise known as Viesczy or Stryz.  A sprinkling of poppy seeds over a suspected vampires grave would supposedly keep it at bay as it would spend it’s time counting them.  It is said that this vampire simply needs to speak the name of its victim in order to kill and that only the victim will hear their name clearly.  Others just hear a cry of an animal deep in the night.

imageKappa – Japan

These types of vampires will suck the blood from horses and cows anuses after dragging the animals in to their watery home. They will only leave the water to rape women, steal victim’s livers and steal fruit. They have been known to strike bargains with people who they won’t attack.  They look like green child like creatures that are very ugly.

Kuzlak – Croatia

This type of vampire is created when an infant dies due to not being breast fed enough. To kill one, its head should be cut off and stuck between its legs.

Krvopijac – Bulgaria

In this neck of the woods, if one is to drink or smoke during Lent, they become a Krvopijac. This type of vampire is a blood drinker and has the ability to move objects. It only has one nostril and a forked tongue.  To remove this type of creature, a monk will call its soul into a bottle of blood, which is then burned.
To find the resting place of this creature, a virgin upon a black horse will ride through the graveyard over the graves and where the horse refuses to go is where you will find the vampire.
This vampire is also known as an Obur.

Langsuir – Malaysia

This vampire was created after a woman died giving birth to a still born baby. The vampire had no fangs but instead, a hole was used to suck blood, which was located at the back of her neck. A Langsuir could become mortal again if a mortal cut off her long nails and black hair and stuffed it into her hole at the back of her neck.

Liugat/Sampiro – Albania

The East European orthodoxy seems to be responsible for spreading the superstitious myth concerning this type of vampire which became popular after the 16th century. All Albanians with a Turkish decent will become a vampire at the moment of their death and be forced to roam the land at night, wearing high heel shoes and a shroud causing death and destruction. A Will-o’-the-wisp could pick out a vampires grave.

Lobishomen – Brazil

A Lobishomen is a male vampire that feeds regularly off a woman, but not killing her. The victim will display nymphomatical tendencies.  Once this creature has fed, it becomes drunk on the blood; therefore it is easy to catch once in this state.  It is said to be created from witchcraft or born through incest and can take on an animal form. When it is an animal, it appears as a hunchback monkey with yellowish skin, black teeth and a beard.

Mjertovjec – Belarus

Another vampire that can be warded off so to speak with poppy seeds. If you sprinkle a trail of poppy seeds, this vampire will follow them back to it’s tomb. This type of vampire is created when a werewolf or witch dies, or when an apostate (a person who renounces their beliefs) dies.

Moribondo – France

This vampire from France only attacks cattle and to protect the animals, the herder will guide them through a ring of fire.

Nachzehrer/Neuntöter – Germany

What a great vampire this is!

It is known to cause plagues and has also been known to tie cow’s tails together.  When it rests within its tomb, it will gnaw upon its shroud and sometimes itself and always keeps its left eye open. To destroy it, place garlic in its mouth or decapitate it. The Neuntoter can only be decapitated between 11pm and midnight.

Some believe that this vampire can leave its grave and shapeshift into the form of a pig and pay a visit to a member of its family and feast upon their blood.  It is also said that they can ring the bells within a church belfry and all those who hear the ringing of the bells will die.

Nosferatu – Romania

This is a blood drinking vampire that can have sexual relations with its victims. A Nosferatu is usually created if they are an illegitimate child of illegitimate parents.

Obayito – Africa

This type of vampire is a living witch or hag that could leave her body at night and feed off the blood of her sleeping victims.

Obur – Bulgaria

Also knows as a Krvopijac.

Ogoljen – The Czech Republic

There are two similar vampires from this region. The Ogoljen roams about and to get rid of it, one should bury it at a crossroads. It is also known to have soil from it’s tomb within its navel.  Another similar kind of vampire to this is one that will roam around naked when its death shroud is dropped. To kill it, steal the shroud.

imagePenanggalan – Malaysia

A beautiful older female that can detach her head at night and fly with a trail of organs and her spine in the search of new born babies to feed upon their blood.  To become a Penanggalan, the use of Black Magic or a demonic curse is used.  Another method of transforming is by startling a woman while praying so that her head snaps around quickly and pops off.

Pijawika – Croatia

Also known as a Kuzlak.

Psychic Vampires – Worldwide

This type of vampire feeds off the energy of its victims.

Raksashas/Raksashis – India

This type of vampire was first documented within the Vedas (Hindu religious text). It was a nocturnal blood drinker that had a fearsome appearance with elongated fangs.  Favourite victims to seek out were pregnant females and they were also known to attack infants.

Sampiro – Albania

See Liugat above.

Strigoi/Strigoaica – Romania

Some of the vampires in this region are said to be living witches who can leave their bodies to attack other people, similar to the Vetalas of India. This type of psychic vampire is often referred to as Strigoi.
Immortal blood drinking vampires are called Strigoi Morti and these are most like the traditional vampire of myth and folklore as they leave their graves at night and were destroyed by a stake, decapitation or burning. The Romanians believed that garlic kept them away, and a branch of a wild rose placed on the grave stopped the vampire from rising.

Succubus/Incubus – Worldwide

The most infamous succubus is Lilith, the first wife of Adam. Lilith is said to be the first immortal in history as well as a seductress. Not only would she strangle baby infants, she would seduce dreaming men, feed off their bodily fluids as well as their sexual energy.

The male form is referred to as an Incubus. This creature would prey upon women while they slept, make love to them and torment their dreams. An Incubus has the ability to father children.

Tasei – Burma

This type of vampire can actually roam around in daylight. They can enter a town either at night or at noon and they can cause minor illnesses. They have huge ears, long tongues and tusk like teeth and they appear as tall dark people. Most of the vampires were evil people who have been condemned to be disembodied spirits. Another name they go by is Thaye.

Talamaur – Australia

Reported to be found on the Banks Islands and has the ability to communicate with the spirit world. This vampire can then use the spirit as it’s servant to feed off fresh corpses as well as walking amongst the living.

Upior or Upyr – Polish and Romania

This blood drinking vampire can roam from noon till midnight. It’s only in recent times that authors have made people believe that vampires only prowl at night. To destroy this kind of creature, a stake would be used as well as decapitation and fire.

Vapir or Ubour – Bulgaria

Similar to the Greek Vrykolakas, this creature would feast upon people until a Bulgarian vampire hunter (vampirdzhija) disposed of the creature either by a wooden stake or forcing the vampire into a bottle with a piece of iron. The vampire was created by either excommunication or an improper burial.

Varacolaci – Romania

These types of vampire are reported to be the strongest and they are able to cause solar and lunar eclipses. They are able to travel by the use of astral projection and can journey anywhere providing the astral cord is not broken. They are often seen to appear as pale skinned humans with dry skin.

Vetalas – India

These vampires can appear in various forms one of which is an old hag who drinks the victim’s blood.

Vrykolakas – Greece

This vampire was created from one of three reasons, violent death, or improper burial or by a priest excommunicating the person from a church. This creature would normally attack relatives or friends by visiting their houses and calling out the victim’s name. If one was to open the door, death would become him/her and they to would turn into a vampire. To destroy this creature, a stake would be used to pin it to its grave, then followed by decapitation and burning. If a priest had excommunicated the vampire, this would be revoked so that ever lasting peace can be found for the unfortunate soul.

imageYara-ma-yha-who – Australia

This is a short creature resembling a little red man, that would live in fig trees waiting to pounce upon its victims with its suction cup like fingers that sucked the blood.  This creature wouldn’t suck enough blood to kill its victim.  It would simply weaken its prey and then devour the whole body in one go.

Vampire Criminals

Definition of a Criminal Vampire

I define such a person from their acts of killing their victims. But do these criminals consider themselves to be a vampire?
Below is a collection of the most infamous ‘vampire criminals’ that I have used to base my findings on.

Fritz Haarmann

Fritz Haarmann – Otherwise known as the ‘Butcher of Hanover’.

Shortly after World War 1, this sinister criminal lurked around the train stations offering young boys a place of shelter and some warm food. None of these boys were seen alive again. They were murdered by having their throat ripped out by Haarmann’s teeth.

Haarmann would dispose of the bodies at his butcher’s shop and sell the victims clothes on the Black Market. He was finally caught and sentenced to death by decapitation in April 1925.

Wayne Clifford Boden – Otherwise known as the ‘Vampire Rapist’.

He stalked his women, strangled and raped them and left savage bite marks on their breasts. This happened in Montreal between the years of 1968 and 1971; finally he was caught and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Vlad Tepes

Romanian prince otherwise known as Vlad the Impaler or Dracula. He was born in 1431. As a ruler, he avenged his brother’s death by hunting down the ‘boyars’ in 1457. First he impaled their wives and children within his courtyard, and then he sent the men to rebuild his ancient castle.

Nobody knows of Vlad’s final resting place as his body has never been found, thus throughout time creating a legend that he walks carrying his coffin and he was according to legend, seen 200yrs after his death.

Bram Stoker did a lot of research into this man and used the name of ‘Dracula’ for his creation, but there is also evidence that points to Stoker basing his creation on the sadistic pleasures of Elizabeth Bathory.

Elizabeth Bathory

Born in 1560 and brought up in the Carpathain mountains, she was born into a powerful family. She was very well educated but was known to suffer fits and rages. There are records of her torturing her servants as she was very cruel and she got great satisfaction from this.

According to legend, some blood from one of her victims fell upon her and she believed it was good for her skin and that it could give her back her youth.

She was also known to bite and eat the flesh of some of the girls. She murdered somewhere between 15-600 girls and when she was finally caught, she was bricked up inside a castle where she died in 1644.

Peter KurtenPeter Kurten – Otherwise known as the ‘Dusseldorf Vampire’.

Born in 1883, Peter Kurten grew up with his drunken and savage father who was sentenced for molesting one of his own daughters. Kurten would often copy his father’s actions. There are reports also of Kurten practising bestiality.

Nobody knows for sure how many victims Kurten murdered over a period of 40yrs. His main method of killing was strangulation and stabbing. It wasn’t just women who fell victim, it was men and children. There were signs of molestation in some of the victims, but according to sources, he got great satisfaction from watching the blood flow. Some victims were tortured and there was evidence of vampirism and cannibalism. He was sentenced to death by the guillotine in 1931.

Richard Trenton ChaseRichard Trenton Chase – Otherwise known as the ‘Vampire of Sacramento’.

Born in 1950, Richard Chase liked to torture animals. Suffering from hypochondria and schizophrenia, he believed that his mother was poisoning him by turning his blood to powder. He also believed that his pulmonary artery had been stolen, bones were coming out of the back of his head and that his stomach was backwards. He once suffered from blood poisoning due to him injecting the blood of a rabbit into his veins to stop his heart from shrinking and disappearing all together. Chase would also use the intestines and blood of rabbits to blend them in a blender and drink.

In 1976 he was institutionalised where he earned the nickname of ‘Dracula’ due to staff finding him with blood around his mouth and two dead birds on the window ledge. Later he was released, as he wasn’t seen to be a danger.

He killed six victims at random, drained their bodies of blood and would mix this together with vital organs in a blender and drink it.

In May 1978 he was sentenced to death by the gas chamber in San Quentin Penitentiary.

Marcelo Costa De Andrade

Born in 1967 and brought up in the slums of Brazil, Marcelo Costa De Andrade was sexually abused at the age of 10 and was regularly beaten by his grandfather and step-parents. At the age of 14 he turned to prostitution.

His killing spree began in 1991 at the age of 24. He raped and strangled 14 boys’ mainly homeless street kids and performed acts of necrophilia. On two of the victims he drank their blood thinking that this would make him as beautiful as them.

Marcelo was eventually captured and institutionalised but in January of 1997 he escaped. He was found with a bible heading for the Holy Land. He is believed to be institutionalised somewhere in Brazil at this current time.

John George Haigh

John George Haigh – Otherwise known as the ‘Vampire of London’ or ‘The Acid bath killer’.

Born in 1910 and raised in a very religious family where punishment would be dealt for sins committed. John George Haigh believed strongly in his dreams that would revisit him throughout his life. He often dreamt of walking in a forest full of crucifixes that slowly turned into trees.
He watched as water or dew slowly dripped from the trees. This liquid turned to blood and a man was gathering the blood in a cup. The cup was offered to Haigh and the man said ‘drink’. Although Haigh would awake at this point he would still reach for the cup. His fixation with religion and blood grew as did his urge to drink blood.

He killed a total of 9 victims by a bludgeoning blow to the head. He would then collect the blood of a victim in a cup and drink it. He would dispose of the bodies by dumping them in a bath of acid.

He had no remorse when he was captured and he was sentenced to death by hanging, which took place in 1949.

Siswanto – The 18-month killing spree of Siswanto, aka Robot Gedek, a homeless Indonesian man, began in December 1994.

His 12 victims were all boys between the ages of 9 and 15. He confessed to sexually molesting his victims before murdering them. He told police he enjoyed drinking his victims’ blood and that he sometimes kept pieces of their skin.

His last victim was found on July 5th 1996. On the 6th of August he confessed to his crimes. On the 21st May 1997, an Indonesian court sentenced him to death.

Rod Ferrell

Rod Ferrell – Leader of a vampire clan, and the case was most commonly known as ‘The Kentucky Vampire Clan Murders’.

Rod Ferrell was the leader of a 30 strong vampire clan who drank blood and believed they could fly. They used to meet at an old abandoned hotel in the woods above Kentucky Lake. This was known by many as The Vampire Hotel.

At the age of 17, Ferrell and his accomplices were arrested for the murders of Richard and Naomi Wendorf in Florida, 1996. Ferrell bludgeoned them to death with a crowbar.

Ferrell believed that he was immortal and that the more people he killed the sooner the ‘Gates of Hell’ would open. He also believed that he was better than a vampire, that he was a demon.

In the past, he had been reported to have tortured animals and drink their blood. His mother Sondra Gibson has been known to practice the occult and vampirism.

Ferrell had been brought up in an inferior family, sexually abused, mistreated as well as being indoctrinated into the myth of the occult/vampires from such an early age.

Rod Ferrel was sentenced to death in the electric chair in 1998.

RudaDaniel Ruda (26) and Manuela Ruda (23)

German husband and wife, both were sentenced to 15 and 13 yrs respectively for the murder of Frank Hackert 33 on the 6th July 2001.

Daniel and Manuela Ruda both claim to be vampires and they both denied the charge of murder, claiming that they were following the orders of Satan, ‘kill, sacrifice, bring souls’.

Frank was chosen for sacrifice because he was a funny guy and would be the perfect court jester for Satan. They invited the victim to a party in their flat where Daniel Ruda hit him over the head with a hammer while his wife was reported to have shouted, ‘Stab him in the heart!”.

Frank was stabbed 66 times in all and the couple then prayed to Satan, cut a pentagram on the victim’s stomach and drank his blood from a bowl on an altar. The pair then made love in Manuela’s silk lined coffin.

After the killing, Manuela was reported to have been disappointed because she never turned into a vampire.

Mathew Hardman

Mathew Hardman (17)

On the 2nd of August 2002, Mathew Hardman otherwise known as the Vampire Boy Killer was sentenced to serve a minimum of 12 years for the brutal murder of Mabel Leyshon at her home in Llanfair, Anglesey, UK.

Hardman believed that he would become immortal by butchering the 90 year old pensioner and drinking her blood.

Ritualistic Murder

On November the 24th a few weeks after Hardman had turned 17 years old; he broke into Mrs Leyshon’s bungalow and launched a ferocious attack on her by stabbing her 20 times. The marks could be seen on the pensioner’s hands where she had tried to defend herself.

He then arranged her dead body on an armchair with her legs propped up on a stool. Two brass pokers were placed on the floor below her feet in the form of an inverted cross, two candlesticks were placed by her body and a candle was placed on the mantelpiece.

Hardman then proceeded to slice her chest open, ripped out her heart, wrapped it in newspaper and placed it in a saucepan on top of a silver platter. He then made three deep gashes in the back of Mrs Leyshon’s leg and drained the blood into the pan before drinking it.

He believed this would turn him into a vampire and make him immortal.

Background Information

Hardman had been arrested previously for accusing a female German exchange student of being a vampire. He had demanded that she bite him to turn him into a vampire.

He believed that the little town called ‘Llanfairpwll’ was the perfect haven for vampires due to the amount of old people who lived there. He assumed that if an old person had been killed, the police would suspect the victim to have died of a heart attack after being bitten.

Six weeks after the murder when details emerged of the killing, police were reminded of Hardman’s earlier arrest. They issued a search warrant and found his bedroom full of vampire related books, magazines and internet related material. Hardman was subsequently arrested.

Stephen Hubner – Otherwise known as the Vampire of Treautenau.

Stephen Hubner came from a small Slavic village called Treautenau and was accused of killing several people between 1730 and 1732. He also strangled cattle.

Five months after his death the Supreme Court upon investigating the murders, found sufficient cause to exhume his body and found it to be perfectly preserved. This led to further suspicions that he may indeed be a vampire. The body was decapitated and cremated and all bodies from the surrounding graves were burned as a precautionary measure.

Antoine Leger

If you do a search on the Internet for this French mass murderer who died in 1824, you will find that he was either accused of vampire crimes or werewolf crimes. Referring to Matthew Bunson’s Vampire Encyclopaedia 1993 edition, Leger would hide out in the woods waiting for young women to pass by. After raping them, he would rip their heart out to eat and drink their blood. He was guillotined for his crimes.

Allan MenziesAllan Menzies (22)

On December 11 2002, Allan Menzies brutally murdered Thomas McKendrick by stabbing him and using a hammer. Menzies then went on to drink some of his victim’s blood and eat part of his head.

He then disposed of his victim by dumping his body in a wheelie bin and took it to the woods where it was discovered 6 weeks later.

Menzies believed that by killing someone he would be rewarded with immortality and return as a vampire in the next life. He also claimed that Akasha, a character from the movie ‘Queen of the Damned’ played by the late Aaliyah told him this when visiting his home in Fauldhouse in West Lothian, Scotland.
Menzies had watched ‘Queen of the Damned’ more than a hundred times and Akasha was his heroine. McKendrick was brutally murdered after insulting Menzies heroine at his home.

The Trial

The trial took place on October 8th 2003 and Menzies was found guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh.
Menzies had denied murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice and his offer to plead guilty to culpable homicide on the grounds of diminished responsibility had already been rejected by the crown.

Menzies told the court..

At the end of the day I knew I would have to murder somebody anyway. It was the only way you could do it. If you don’t murder somebody you couldn’t become a vampire.”

Judge Roderick Macdonald said upon sentencing,

In my opinion you are an evil, violent and highly dangerous man who is not fit to be at liberty”.

He also stated that Menzies was an “evil and dangerous psychopath” and should serve at least 18yrs before being considered for parole.”

You subjected Thomas McKendrick to a savage and merciless attack. You totally lack remorse.”

Menzies Background

At the age of 14, Menzies was sent to a secure unit after stabbing a pupil and had attacked a family member with a knife.  He had also been sentenced to three years detention for assaulting a 13-year-old boy and causing a severe injury.

Menzies suffered from a severe personality disorder but was not insane.

Why have they been named Criminal Vampires?

Two of the above criminals drank their victim’s blood, believing that this would make them beautiful and youthful in appearance as in the case of Elizabeth Bathory and Marcelo Costa De AndradeSiswanto also liked to drink their victim’s blood because he liked it, as did John George Haigh, Richard Trenton Chase, Peter Kurten.  In vampire mythology, drinking the blood of a victim was needed. It is also said that the vampire will gain the life-force of their victim, thus making themselves stronger.

All of the cases above bear some sort of vampire trait. Biting, a common vampire trait was reported in the cases of Wayne Clifford Boden, who would bite the women’s breasts. Fritz Haarmann would rip his victim’s throat out with his teeth.

Vlad Tepes would kill by impaling his victims on a stake. I think that he is now known as a vampire criminal due to Bram Stoker’s Dracula novel, which has made more people aware of this historic figure and the crimes of torture he committed.

The only true vampire criminal above has to be Rod Ferrell. He actually believed he was a vampire and that he was immortal. He’s grown up with occult practises within the family; even his mother believes that she is a vampire. Ferrell would practice the drinking of blood with other clan members; even involve this as a ritual when initiating new members into his vampire clan. There are also reports of him playing ‘Vampire the Masquerade’ game, which is a fantasy role-playing game.

Latest Vampire Criminals

Arizona Vampire Idiots

vampire criminals

14th October 2010

21 year old Amanda Williamson and 24 year old Aaron Homer from Arizona are the latest idiots to be listed here as ‘Vampire Criminals’.

It’s really pathetic that morons believe that they are vampires and take it to the extreme of stabbing their victim to drink his blood after he refused them permission. Luckily their victim Robert Maley didn’t die, but he had been stupid to let the pair drink his blood on a previous occasion just so that they would leave him alone.

Brisbane Lesbian Vampire Killer Released

14th April 2008

Lisa Ptaschinski and inset Tracey Wigginton

Tracey WiggintonReports made by an Australian newspaper claiming that ‘Brisbane Vampire Killer’ Tracey Wigginton, 42, had been approved for parole or graduated release have been rejected by Queensland’s Corrective Services department.   Instead, one of her co-accused, Lisa Ptaschinski has had her application for resettlement approved.

Under the resettlement leave programme, Ptaschinski who has served 17 years in prison since being sentenced to murder in February 1991, will be given a maximum of 12 hours leave every two months for six months.

Both Wigginton, who received a life sentence and Ptaschinski first came up for parole in 2002, and while Ptaschinski is classified as low risk, Corrective Services reported last year that Wigginton still had social and anger issues.

Case History

In 1989 Tracey Wigginton’s ‘need to feed’ was so great that she and three other women, one of them her vampire lover, lured Edward Baldock,  47 and a father of five, into their car before driving out to Orleigh Park, where Wigginton stabbed him a total of 27 times and then drank his blood.

They were quickly caught when detectives found an ATM card belonging to Wigginton in one of his shoes.

Vampire lesbian and lover killed British teenager

December 2006 Perth Austrailia

Stacey Mitchell aged just 16 and originally from West Moors in Dorset was repeatedly hit over the head with a concrete block by a pair of evil lesbian lovers who celebrated with a kiss as she lay dying on the floor.

Stacey was sharing a house with Jessica Stasinowsky, 21, and Valerie Parashumti, 19.

Stasinowsky believed that Stacey was flirting with Parashumti who had been experimenting with drinking blood as early as aged 10 and later as part of a vampire sub culture.  The pair of them plotted the killing of Stacey when Parashumti felt the need to prove that Stacey meant nothing to her.

All three of them drank whiskey and Stacey had taken some tablets that had made her feel drowsy.

Parashumti crept up behind Stacey and repeatedly hit her over the head with the concrete block while Stasinowsky strangled Stacey with a metal dog chain.  The lesbian lovers then knelt over her body when thinking she was dead and kissed while taking her pulse.

The pair became sexually aroused whilst performing this sickening act and they even filmed the whole incident on a mobile phone, which showed Stacey’s blood spattered bedroom.

They finished off with dumping Stacey head first into a wheelie bin and it is estimated that Stacey took 45 mins to die.

When in court, the pair showed absolutely no remorse.  Stasinowsky told a prisoner officer that she wished it had taken Stacey longer to die.

Both were sentenced to a minimum of 24 years.

Judge Peter Blaxell told them: “You have each had more than a year in custody to reflect upon the evilness of your crime, yet you still lack remorse and obviously place no value on the sanctity of human life.

The English Vampire

Due to my fascination with vampires, below you will find a collection of true vampire reports that have been recorded throughout history from England in the UK.

Reference is given below each case.

The Vampire of Alnwick Castle – (Northumberland)

This incident dates back to the 12th century and was recorded by the English chronicler William of Newburgh.

The so called vampire had a nasty reputation for being wicked and cruel when he was alive, and the local lord offered him a position upon moving from Yorkshire.

One night while spying on his adulterous wife, the man slipped from the roof and died before the morning. He was given a Christian burial, but soon afterwards, there were reports that he had risen from the grave to claim his victims and spread a nasty plague.

The once populated town was now nearly empty and some of the remaining villagers decided to take a stance. They dug up the vampire from his shallow grave within the cemetery to find the decomposing body. When they pierced the bloated body, blood poured everywhere which caused the villagers to believe that this indeed was a vampire. Terrified, they burned the body and by co-incidence, the plague and deaths stopped.

The Vampire of Berwick

Thanks to William of Newburgh once again who recorded the case of the wandering un-dead in the town of Berwick.

This tale is very similar to the ‘Vampire of Alnwick Castle’ where an evil man dies and soon after burial, he is spotted walking amongst the living.
The townsfolk fearing the onset of a plague dug up the dead man and cut his body to pieces.

Buckinghamshire Vampire

Also recorded by William of Newburgh and reported to have happened in 1196.

This vampire was not very powerful and he was easily repulsed by his wife and family when he tried to abuse them. Off he went to abuse nearby animals, but what was particularly alarming to the local villagers was that they seen him during the day.
The bishop was called and he didn’t want to burn the body so instead he placed an absolution on the corpse that laid him to rest.

Vampire of Croglin Grange – Cumbria

Many years ago, Croglin Lower Hall, in Cumbria was inhabited by two brothers and their sister Amelia (In some versions she is Anne but never mind).

One night as Amelia was preparing to sleep she was aware of a sensation of being watched. She glanced through her leaded window and thought she saw a pair of evil eyes glittering from the darkness of a clump of trees. At first she put it down to her imagination, but when she looked again a grisly dark figure was making its way across the lawn to her… she was transfixed as it pressed up against the window and began picking the lead away with a bony finger. She was too afraid to scream, and by all accounts it was a hideous thing, shrivelled flesh and huge malevolent eyes. It lifted the latch on her window, bounded in and seized the girl by her hair as it sank its teeth into her throat. At this point she screamed, and the Thing fled, but it had vanished by the time her brothers ran to her aid.

Some nights later, Amelia woken by a familiar scratching at the window, and sure enough the Vampire had returned. Her shrieks brought the brothers into the room in time to see the direction in which the creature fled.

They tracked it to the local cemetery. They marked the tomb and returned at daylight, whereupon they broke into the grave and burned the Vampire to ashes.

The Vampire of Melrose Abbey – Scottish Border

Another tale that was recorded by William of Newburgh.

When living, this vampire was the chaplain to a lady of high rank and his nickname was Hundeprest which meant Dog Priest due to his horse hunting activities.

Shortly after his death, reports were made that he could be seen trying to gain entry into the abbey without success. One night however, he appeared at the bed of his former employee shrieking and moaning. She summoned a senior member of the abbey who proceeded to hunt down the vampire.

One night, when the senior member’s companions left him alone at his post, he watched the vampire rise from his grave. He managed to ward off the vampires attacks and the next morning the vampires coffin was opened to reveal a corpse that was covered in black blood. The vampire was taken to an area outside of the abbey and burned.
