Macabre Photography by David Moyle

Monday, February 1st, 2010

It’s not often that I come across another dark photographer whose work bruises my chin when my mouth drops open in awe.  The two images below are prime examples of David’s macabre photography and I doubt that anyone just flicks them aside.  They draw the viewer in and you can’t help wondering what on Earth is happening.

I asked David to send me two of his favourite macabre photos and his inspiration for creating them.

Macabre Photography

‘Much of my inspiration comes from a variety of modern horror directors, combined with some of the odd things I dream occasionally. Oddly, what other people sometimes find to be nightmares, I usually wake up and try to file away in my head as a creative idea. Sometimes I wake up somewhat terrified by what I’ve seen. But, after a moment, realize, it’s just my head working out creative concepts while I sleep.

The first is one that has a story to it. I had made plans with my Makeup Artist I use and a model to shoot some macabre work outdoors, and it was pouring rain that day. Well, the model, being a real dedicated woman, decided she wanted to use it to our advantage, so we went out and she used it to our advantage. She got down in the mud and started smearing it on her dress, tearing it here and there, and getting mud in her hair for me as I told her my ideas.

Directors such as Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge) and Gore Verbinski (The Ring) were some of my inspirations. I, of course also grew up with such things as "Thriller" which was my inspiration for some of the more "Zombie"-like images I create, like the second one.’

Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Last night my daughter shouts me into the living room and she’s in hysterics at an old show of Jerry Springer.  She was only a baby in the 90’s so seeing Jerry for the first time was very amusing for her.

Watching it last night got me thinking about how much I miss the old Jerry Springer shows, being totally shocked at the outrageous antics.  Never in a million years would a British TV show allow fighting like that, hence why Jerry was always put on late at night.

In remembrance of these shows, I’ve found some excellent clips on YouTube for us all to enjoy.

I really don’t know what to say about the Midget KKK!

The Countess 2009

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

I recently had the pleasure of watching this wonderful film based on the life of the Hungarian Countess Erzebet Bathory played by Julie Delpy.

Known as the ‘Blood Countess’ and for good reason, this 2009 film tells the story of the Countess who falls in love with the attractive Istvan Thurzo who is 18 years younger than her. Their love is mutual much to the dismay of his father Gyorgy Thurzo, played by William Hurt, who proceeds to split them up by forcing his son to marry another and not see the Countess again.

Heartbroken, the Countess has no stomach for food and is slowly starving. She gets paranoid believing that he has fallen for a younger looking woman and when viewing her reflection in the mirror, she sees an aging woman.

One day in a fit of rage, she strikes her maid across her face and blood splatters on to the Countess’s face. She proceeds to wipe it off in the mirror and at the same time, light shines through the window and the Countess believes that the young maids blood is making her skin more youthful in appearance.

Has she lost her mind or does she truly believe that the blood of young virgins is responsible for making her skin appear youthful again?

In real life, the Countess is believed to have killed more than 600 young women and this adaptation provides one of the many theories as to why she did this. One thing we do know for sure is that she definitely had a thirst for blood.

After watching this film, I felt very sorry for The Countess and Julie Delpy played her magnificently. It’s a beautiful, heartbreaking story and one that shouldn’t be missed.

October Top Ten Twitter List

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

My top ten horror twitter list features people who love horror.

This list is my personal recommendation from my experience of regularly communicating with them on Twitter. Yes sure it’s personal, but these days, you get a lot of people using Twitter purely as a marketing tool and that bores the death out of me.

Below is my current top ten list and why I rate them. I will provide further updates as and when changes are made.

My favourite Horror Twitterer is….

hc

 1. @Horror_Crypt (moves up 1 place)

Horror movie reviews and much more…

Horror_Crypt is my favourite horror girl on Twitter. She is responsible for HorrorCrypt.com, where she discusses all things horror. She’s witty and I like her horror rants such as why people assume she likes ‘Twilight’ just because she has boobies.

Horror_Crypt or Bloofer Lady as she’s known on her blog has earned number 1 status this month due to her amusing ‘Survival Tips of the Week

Very amusing and she has a very warm personality on Twitter. She’s definitely one to get to know and converse with on a regular basis. We have become Twitter friends.

daywalt

2. @DrewDaywalt (moves down 1 place)

Nice guy. Creepy films.  Part of the FEWDIO Horror Troupe

Drew is responsible for writing and directing many short horror films for Fewdio.com and my favourite is ‘Bedfellows’. Drew regularly chats to lots of people on Twitter and he has a wonderful personality. I always look forward to his tweets. He’s one in a million!

3. @BathoryErzsebet

Being the first recorded vampire, I tortured & killed servant girls then bathed in & drank their blood as a youth/beauty regiment. AKA: ‘The Blood Countess’

Countess Bathory herself is on Twitter and she loves to share her torturous delights with all her followers and she loves to engage in conversation.

If you’ve ever been intrigued about the legend of Countess Dracula, hear the truth from her and don’t be afraid to chat to her. She’s a lot of fun!

harker

4. @MsHarker

Horror enthusiast, blooming blogger and professional bleeding heart.

The first time I clicked on a Twitter link of hers, she had me in stitches with her TrueBlood rant. She can’t stand Bill’s mop and she fangs for Eric. MsHarker is very witty and amusing and this comes across in her Musing Consortium blog where she discusses all things dark and delicious. Her blog is that good that I regularly comment on her posts. She’s lovely and highly recommended.

did 5. @DreaminDemon (moves up 3 places)

Real life horror. Crimentertainment at its tackiest. We usually follow back and #FollowFriday those who @reply and RT.

I don’t engage in conversation with this Twitterer. With over 5000 followers and following over 5000 people, it must be hard to engage in conversation with everyone. Keep up the good work!  His tweets about horror crime and other industry news are very, very good.

The Greatest Car in TV History

Munster Koach

It has to be the ‘Munster Koach’ built by ‘George Barris’ for the hit TV show ‘The Munsters’.

munsters

This hot rod car is 18ft long and made from three Model T bodies.  Each member of the Munsters family required their own compartment, which included a laboratory for Grandpa Munster.

It has blood red velvet interior and black gloss pearl paint on the exterior and gets three miles to a gallon on embalming fluid.  :P

1964 the cost to build the first Munster Koach was $18,000.00 and there was only two built.

The studio only gave ‘George Barris’ 21 days to complete the car.

It has a four speed manual transmission with a power rear end.

The car is powered by a 289 Ford Cobra engine which was bored to 425 cid.

Second Best TV Car Ever?

Dragula

musnsters 2

Dragula was Grandpa Munster’s car which was also built by ‘George Barris’.

The fibre glass body of DRAG-U-LA was shaped like a coffin. It featured a 350HP 289CI Ford Mustang V-8 engine, with a four-speed stick shift.
