Sheila and Gothic Jewellery Box

Handmade classic horror inspired Gothic jewellery

Above is one of the latest banners I’ve designed for Gothic Jewellery Box featuring Sheila who was rescued from the skip at work.  Unfortunately I had to leave her sisters behind, but she’s safe and sound now and she just loves to showcase my Gothic necklaces.

Bat Necklace

Click on the image to see this funky pewter bat pendant dangling from a necklace made of quality glass black pearls.  It’s suitable for both men and women and Sheila couldn’t wait to model it (see above.)  More information including the price can be found here.  If you want different colour beads, for example, you would like some red coloured Swarovski crystals to replace the metal beads, just ask.  I can customise all jewellery at Gothic Jewellery Box.

Again, if you would like a different photograph or different coloured beads, just ask.

New Gothic & Horror Photo Pendants

25x18-crow-pendant

Above is my latest photography pendant featuring a crow that I came across in the local cemetery.  I originally dismissed this photograph and almost deleted it, but I’m glad I kept it as it looks wonderful as a pendant.  For more information about this particular pendant, click on the image above or click here.  To view the full range of my Gothic and horror photography pendants click here  http://gothicjewellerybox.com/photo-pendants/photo-charms

So Long 2011

Well it’s certainly been a challenging year and as I write this now, I’m suffering with severe tonsillitis.  As soon as I opened my mouth at the emergency GP clinic, the doctor almost jumped backwards stating the obvious.  Thankfully I now have my anti-biotic tablets, but of course, I can’t have a drink for the next week.  New Years Eve without a drink! Sad smile

My 2yr old granddaughter, Holly is most definitely providing the terrible two syndrome and yes, Christmas has been very different this year.  To be honest, my patience has been very thin and I wish I could have crawled into a hole and hibernated instead of putting on a show for everyone and pretending that I’m not as bad as I feel. At least I’m feeling better and to while away some alone time, I’ve decided to highlight the good and bad points of 2011.

Gothic and Horror Photography

Dark Road to Nowhere

It’s a huge struggle selling Gothic and horror photography.  This year I’ve made about five sales, if that as it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Obviously I get lots of really nice feedback, which is much appreciated and I thank you all for your kind words.  I’ve recently updated my photography gallery (click here to view) as it presents the photographs a lot better.  The music is supplied by the lovely Tony Longworth, who I miss working with on a daily basis due to being made redundant a few years back.

I will carry on with my photography, but some of you may have noticed that I’m gradually stepping out of the shadows and dipping my toes into the world of commercial photography.  I’ve taken child/family portraits and completed one wedding this year.

My heart will always be with the Gothic and horror photography though and I will update my galleries soon.

My big drive this year has been pushing my Gothic jewellery that I started to create at the beginning of the year.  It is inspired by my love of classic horror.  I’ve been more successful with selling items of jewellery than my photography, but if I’m to make a profit, I need to sell a lot more.

There’s currently a massive sale on where you get 15% off any item of jewellery from now until the end of January using code NY2012.    http://www.gothicjewellerybox.com

What I’m really pleased about happened very recently.  My mother asked me if I could make a pendant featuring a photograph of a girls deceased mother as a nice gift for Christmas day.  The girl loves it and it might bring in some more orders for me, so that’s brilliant news.

Meeting Twitter Friends in Person

I’m really happy that I got to meet the following Twitter peeps in person as it’s been fun and it’s always nice to make new friends.

  • The wonderful @PepperyApple who is a local girl and we had a really nice chat over a Starbucks coffee.  I’m guessing it will be the first of many.
  • I finally got to meet @Cyberschizoid and @ScareSarah in person at the Manchester Horror Campaign Festival.  I also met some other followers such as @liverecs and more.
  • Of course @HorrorExtreme has been to stay a couple of times with us this year, but fancy passing out on Halloween…

and finally……

The Hammer Horror Poster is Framed and Up

To my amazement, Luke purchased this poster as a Christmas gift last year and today, yes today, it’s actually been placed on the wall and doesn’t it look FANGTASTIC?

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours all the best for 2012 and thanks for supporting my classic horror creativeness as again, it’s much appreciated.

Who is Joseph Vargo?

You should know by now that I am well impressed with Nox Arcana’s piece of music titled Night of the Wolf that is heard playing while a vampire exorcism takes place within a Russian film called Evil.  If you haven’t seen this beautiful clip with the haunting melodies of Nox Arcana, click here now to see it.

When preparing the piece below about the release of Nox Arcana’s latest CD, The Dark Tower, I decided to find out more about the man behind Nox Arcana and I’m in awe.

Joseph VargoJoseph Vargo is an amazing artist, full of creativity with a passion for revealing his vision of Gothic realms that are dark and enticing.  He’s almost like my soul mate, because after reading his biography, I feel like we have so much in common.  If you click on his image, you will be able to read his biography in full.

Joseph, is a writer, composer and an artist from Cleveland, Ohio. Together with William Piotrowski, he formed Nox Arcana and seriously, if you like dark and haunting melodies that  are filled with passion, click on the links below to sample their music.

Within Vargo’s biography, it states that he tended to gravitate towards horror movies, monster models and anything that could warp his young and impressionable mind.   His artwork, which can be seen by clicking this link here, is full of his passion for the creatures of the night, gaunt vampires, beautiful women in dark, fantasy realms and his love of fairy tales.  There’s one image that captivates me and it can be found in his Vampires category and it’s the final image.  It shows soldiers impaled in a dark and cold realm with the vultures circling above and an evil looking tower standing strong in the background.  I look at this and immediately think of Vlad Dracula or you might know him by his common name of Vlad the Impaler.

I can see Vargo’s vision clearly.  He is so passionate that in order to bring his world to life, not only does his skilfully recreate these Gothic paintings, he creates the music and the stories to bring them to life.  I’ve only just found this out myself and I’m certainly hooked. As soon as payday comes, I’m certainly investing in one of his books.

The Dark Tower CD coverAnyway, in time for Halloween, Nox Arcana have released a new CD titled The Dark Tower.

Born of the Night, they lurk in the shadows–gargoyles of living stone, lost souls who wander mist-shrouded cemeteries, and vampires who dwell deep within forbidden crypts. They are the spirits that haunt the blackest wells of midnight–trapped between the realms of the living and the dead, forsaken and cursed to forever dwell beneath the shadow of The Dark Tower.

Nox Arcana invites you to explore a realm of gothic mystery, horror and romance with this dark symphony of the night.   Eerie piano and pipe organ melodies echo through haunted halls, ghostly choirs chant to the rhythm of tolling bells, epic orchestrations stir powerful emotions, while the cries of wolves, ravens and restless spirits echo in the dead of night.
The Dark Tower marks Nox Arcana’s 16th concept album, each of which offers a unique and different Gothic theme. Joseph Vargo brings his dark visions to life with his masterful blend of haunting melodies, ominous orchestrations and chilling sound effects, creating a brooding soundtrack of mystery and menace for his Dark Tower book series. (21 tracks. 66 mins.)
