I love places that have an interesting history and the Hill of Slane in County Meath, Ireland doesn’t disappoint.
Pagan was the main religion for the Irish Celts until St Patrick arrived to convert them to Christianity. He lit a paschal fire on this hill in direct opposition to the Druids and King Laegaire before they lit their sacred fire on the hill of Tara. The Druids warned Laegaire to extinguish the fire immediately and the instruction was ignored. To read more about this legend, please visit Meath Heritage by clicking here.
